Bike Mechanic

Are you a skilled mechanic who is passionate about helping families discover the joy and independence of cycling? Buddy Pegs is looking for a dedicated technician to be the mechanical backbone of our mission to double the number of kids riding bikes. You will bring new bikes to life, implement a wellness plan for old ones, and serve as a crucial mechanical guide to parents and kids as they embark on their bicycle journey.

What You’ll Do (Key Focus Areas)

 

While primarily a ‘back-of-the-house’ service role, you must be a team player ready to flex and support our mission. Communication and patience are essential.

  • Bike Service & Build: Assemble new bikes, maintain our demo fleet, and perform routine customer service work with excellence and attention to detail.

  • Shop Management: Order necessary supplies, manage work orders accurately in our POS system, and proactively manage the service schedule to minimize customer wait times.

  • Customer & Sales Support: Clearly communicate maintenance options, timelines, and technical details to customers. Help improve sales by providing educated advice on products that enhance the family riding experience.

  • Mechanical Education: Help teach basic mechanical skills to our coaches and customers, ensuring all staff can handle minor bike issues during classes.

We’re Looking for Someone Who Is:

 

  • A Proven Mechanic: 2 years of professional bicycle mechanic experience (or equivalent).

  • A Communicator: Excellent verbal and written skills for clear customer interactions.

  • Detail-Oriented: Strong attention to detail and follow-through; a “deal-killer” is poor attention to detail or responsiveness.

  • Proactive & Flexible: Independently motivated with the ability to take initiative, make decisions, and adjust quickly in a dynamic environment.

  • Customer-Obsessed: Possesses Emotional Intelligence and a passion for creating transformative customer experiences, especially around children and families.

  • Committed to Our Mission: Excited about youth development and contributing to our vision of Saving Our Home Planet by promoting cycling.

Important Notes

 

  • Compensation: $15.00 – $20.00 per hour, based on Experience.

  • Schedule: Full-time or Part-time (20-40 hours/week). Afternoon and weekend hours are expected.
