Field Game: Water Bottle Pick Up

This game is a bit more on the difficult side, but it is nonetheless a very useful exercise when practicing individual skills like balance/coordination, slow-speed maneuvering, and riding flexibility.

Materials Needed:

  • An elevated object that you can ride next to (traffic cone, chair, folding table, etc.)
  • A water bottle

Setup:

  1. Place the water bottle on top of the cone around a few yards away from start.

To Play:

  1. Riders will pedal toward the cone and attempt to reach down and grab the water bottle
  2. If they pick it up, they get a point! If they drop it, they do not.

Spice it up a bit

  1. Add an additional cone some distance after the first, so they have to accurately pick up from one cone and place the bottle on another
  2. Start closer to the cone to make starting & moving while reaching down more difficult at slow speeds
  3. Start farther away from the cone while reaching to make it more difficult at fast speeds
  4. Use a smaller object to grab so they have to be more precise
